Commercial Publishing
It is difficult to get published commercially
Everyone dreams of getting their book published with a big New York publishing company. They dream of a six figure advance and many sequels along with a big house and fancy cars. Some people do get this dream, but not everyone.
If you like to read and read often, you’ve probably come across a not-so-good or maybe even horrible book. It was poorly written and just didn’t make sense. If they could get published, why couldn’t you?
You need a literary agent to be published commercially
Most, if not all, commercial publishers will not even look at your book without a literary agent. A literary agent is similar to any other agent. It is someone that will help you with your book and help you to get it published. They will usually charge a fee based on a percentage of your book sales.
It isn’t easy to a literary agent. They have to really like your work, just like the publisher.
It is hard to be published commercially, but with good reason
It is hard to be published commercially, but that is because the literary world is a competitive one. A publisher is only going to want to publish books they think will do well. In order to be published, not only do you have to be really good, but you have to be better than the rest.
Don’t let these difficulties frustrate you. You could self-publish, but don’t rule out commercial publishing altogether. It is a much more desired route because you don’t have to pay to publish, you might get paid in an advance, and they may help you market your book.
