"Without words, without writing and without books there would be no history, there could be no concept of humanity." - Hermann Hesse
Get published without an agent, editor, or tough submission process
A part of writing is sharing it with others. Of course, you can do this by sending them copies of your work to enjoy, but you would like to be compensated for your efforts. You’re passionate about your writing and shouldn’t feel ashamed to want to profit from it. But what do you do while you wait for you big break with a publishing contract?
There are so many places online where you can be published without having to be “approved” by someone. You are going to want to put your best effort and editing into it, but you won’t have to revise to the specifications of someone else. You will be able to make the work completely how you want it and still get your stuff out there.
My favorite place to do this is at Helium.com. I have several articles written there and plan on publishing some of my fiction pieces soon. It’s a great place to put your work. They don’t have to approve your work and they even have a whole section devoted to creative writing where you can publish short stories, novel excerpts, and essays.
You can even post links to your stories on your myspace, facebook, or other social networking site, and send it to friends and family so that they can read your stories. Also, it would be a great idea to join a writing community and you can post links to your work there as well.
Another great benefit to helium.com is that you can also make some money. You only make a penny for every few page views, but if you have a lot of stories and a lot of people who regular read your stuff, it can add up. This can give you some incentive to keep going because other people are interested in your stuff.
If you would rather have a more personalized space, you could even start your own website or blog where you post your own stories, poems, and other writing. This can be personalized any way you want.
While you are still new to writing, or even more established, publishing your work online can promote you and let other’s see what you’re all about.
